Muguruza marches on at Roland Garros

Defending champion and fourth seed Garbine Muguruza of Spain defeated Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan in straight sets to reach the Last 16 at Roland Garros on Friday.

Muguruza needed one hour and 41 minutes to defeat the 27th seed 7-5, 6-2 on Philippe Chatrier court.

In the first set, there was a total of seven breaks of serve with Muguruza making the decisive break in the 11th game before serving out the set to claim it 7-5.

But the next set was a different story. The 23-year-old Spaniard upped her game, breaking her opponent's serve three times to race to a decisive victory.

Muguruza moves on to face 13th seed Kristina Mladenovic in the next round, after the Frenchwoman survived a grueling two-hour-and-50-minute encounter with American Shelby Rogers, finally prevailing 7-5, 4-6, 8-6.
