Kei Nishikori has been forced to withdraw from the Madrid Open, handing Novak Djokovic a place in the semi-finals.
The Japanese superstar reached the quarter-finals of the clay court event following a straight set demolition of David Ferrer on Thursday.
However, Nishikori played with some wrist pain and has opted to withdraw from his last eight clash with the world number two.
"I think it's still not one hundred per cent," the 27-year-old told atpworldtour.com
"I don't want to risk it too much today. I want to fight again in every match. It's been taking a long time since Miami. So I don't want to go too hard on my wrist."

Djokovic will face either old rival Rafael Nadal or Belgian David Goffin, who face off on Friday in Madrid.
