Davis Cup team-mates Dan Evans and Kyle Edmund are safely through to the second round of the Barcelona Open after victories on Monday.
Monte Carlo champion Rafael Nadal and World No 1 Andy Murray are both set to start their campaigns later this week, but the action in the Catilan capital is already under way.
Evans was up against Thiago Monteiro of Brazil, and after dropping the first set and finding himself in trouble in the second, he mounted an incredible comeback to triumph 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).
Evans was a set and 0-2 down, but rallied with three straight breaks, wrapping up the second set before dominating the final-set tie-break to set up a second-round clash with Germany's Mischa Zverev.
Fellow Brit Edmund also looked impressive on the red clay, dispatching Jeremy Chardy 6-3, 6-4, a solitary break in each set proving enough to get past the Frenchman.
Next up for Edmund is a clash with World No 9 Dominic Thiem.
Murray, meanwhile, will look to get his clay-court season back on track when he takes on the winner of the match between Australia's Bernard Tomic and German Dustin Brown on Wednesday.
Nadal will face Argentina's Renzo Olivo or Brazilian Rogério Dutra Silva.
