Pabo Carreno Busta survived a fightback from Victor Estrella Burgos to reach the quarter-finals of the Rio Open.
Estrella Burgos was given a second chance in the tournament after Gerald Melzer withdrew due to illness and he made the most of that opportunity by taking Carreno Busta to three sets.
However, the fourth seed came through 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 after breaking Estrella Burgos twice in the final set and dropping just five points on his serve.

Carreno Busta will face Alexandr Dolgopolov in the quarter-finals after the Ukrainian extended his winning streak to seven matches with a three sets 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Horacio Zeballos.
Dolgopolov is aiming to build on last week’s triumph at the Argentina Open, where he beat Kei Nishikori to win his first APT World Tour title in five years.
In the other second round tie, Thiago Monteiro progressed in a three set encounter against fellow Brazilian Thomaz Belluci.
Monteiro took the first set on a tie break and despite Belluci fighting back to take the second 6-3, it wasn’t sufficient to prevent the 22-year-old winning the third 6-3.
