Fognini sends defending Davis Cup champs crashing out

A stunning fightback from Italy's Fabio Fognini saw Italy claim a 3-2 win over defending Davis Cup champions Argentina in Buenos Aires.

The host nation seemed on course for victory when Guido Pella took a two sets to love lead over Fognini in the deciding singles rubber, which was held over to Monday because of rain.

But the Italian totally turned the tables from there, bossing the last three sets for a 2-6 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-2 victory that sent Italy through to a quarter-final against Belgium in April.

It was a fitting end to a topsy-turvy tie, which started with Italy taking a 2-0 lead on the opening day, only for the home side to come roaring back to level the scores, setting the stage for the thrilling clash between Fognini and Pella.
