Wawrinka secures spot in World Tour Finals

Swiss tennis star Stan Wawrinka has secured himself a spot in the ATP World Tour Finals in London at the end of the year after winning the US Open against top-ranked Novak Djokovic this past weekend.

The first three players that have so far qualified for the O2 Arena season-ending event are, Australian and French Open champion Djokovic, Wimbledon champion Andy Murray and world number three Wawrinka.

This will be the 31-year-old Wawrinka's fourth appearance at the Tour Finals after claiming his third grand slam title by beating Djokovic 6-7 (1), 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 having previously won the 2014 Australian Open and 2015 French Open titles.

In an interview, Wawrinka said his goal at the start of the season was to qualify for the Tour Finals adding that he loved playing at the O2 Arena in London.

"At the beginning of the season, it is always my goal to be in the top eight and qualify for London," said Wawrinka.

"It is great to be able to secure a spot once again this year after a fantastic two weeks in New York. I look forward to returning to The O2. I love playing there."
