Tomic talks his way into trouble at US Open

Australian bad boy Bernard Tomic has caused a stir at the US Open after he was caught directing a lewd comment at a spectator.

Tomic trailed Damir Dzumhur 5-4 in the opening set of their first-round match at Flushing Meadows when he began engaging with a member of the crowd.

The 23-year-old told the heckling fan on the Old Grandstand court: “I will put my balls in your mouth” and “I will give you some money to make you feel good”. Tomic added: “Suck my balls.”

The world number 19 complained about the spectator to umpire Cedric Mourier at the change of ends, but Mourier was not moved to take any action. Tomic told the official: “He’s saying s*** to me.”

Tomic went on to lose the match 6-4 6-3 4-6 7-6 (7/0) to Dzumhur, who is ranked 72nd in the world and 53 spots below him.

It is the first time Tomic has been defeated in the first round of a grand slam since the French Open in 2014.
