Reigning French Open champion Garbine Muguruza is through the semi-finals of the Western & Southern Open after a straight sets victory over Tímea Babos.
The fourth-seeded Spaniard converted three of nine break points while saving all three break points she faced to wrap up a 6-4, 6-3 victory in just over 90 minutes.
Muguruza moves on to face 15th seed Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic, who survived a second-set blip to defeat Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
Germany’s Angelique Kerber is also through to the semi-finals after battling past Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro.
Kerber dropped the first set against the ninth seed, but came back strongly in the last two, winning 12 of the last 15 games to clinch a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory.
She moves on to face third seed Simona Halep, who defeated fifth seed Agnieszka Radwanska 7-5, 6-1.
