Second seed Stan Wawrinka found himself in trouble at the Western & Southern Open on Tuesday as he was a set down in his second round match against Jared Donaldson before rain suspended play for the day.
Wawrinka, who reached the semi-final of the Rogers Cup in Toronto three weeks ago, was given a bye in the first round, but looked sluggish in his match against Donaldson as he was broken twice in the first set, which he lost 2-6.
The Swiss star did make a comeback in the second set though as he broke Donaldson in the second game en route to taking a 3-0 lead before the rain came.
Wawrinka will complete his match against Donaldson on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, ninth seed Gael Monfils, 11th seed David Goffin, 13th seed Richard Gasquet and 16th seed Feliciano Lopez all made it through to the second round. Joining them in the second round is Bernard Tomic, John Isner and Marcos Baghdatis.
