Croatian veteran Karlovic added 17 more aces to the 27 he racked up in his quarter-final win over Radek Stepanek, but that was not enough to see him to victory on this occasion as Mannarino – who managed only two aces himself – ran out a 7-6 (7/5) 7-6 (7/5) winner.
That ended Karlovic’s bid for a third successive final appearance in Bogota, having won the tournament in 2013 and finished runner-up to Bernard Tomic last year, and means third-seeded Frenchman Mannarino is now one win away from his maiden ATP Tour title.
And it will be defending champion Tomic who stands in Mannarino’s way in the??final.
Australian Tomic, the second seed, was taken the distance by Germany’s Michael Berrer in the second semi-final but eventually emerged victorious 6-4 6-7 (4/7) 7-6 (7/3) in a match that lasted two hours and 18 minutes.
