Ivanovic storms into Mallorca quarters

Serbia's Ana Ivanovic remains on course for a first title of 2016, as she powered her way into the last eight of the Mallorca Open.

Ivanovic's second-round opponent, 19-year-old Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain, appeared a little overawed as she went down 6-1, 6-0 in just 51 minutes.

The former World No 1 dropped just seven points on her first serve, and converted five of nine break point opportunities to set up a quarter-final clash with sixth seed Carolina Garcia of France.

Garcia edged German Anna-Lena Friedsam 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) earlier in the day.

Also advancing were Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens, who beat Monica Puig 6-3, 6-4, and Verónica Cepede of Paraguay, who was a 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 7-5 winner over Laura Siegemund.
