Number two seed Andy Murray beat Frenchman Richard Gasquet at Roland Garros on Wednesday to set up a semi-final clash against defending champion Stan Wawrinka.
The Scot won 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-0, 6-2 to take his grand slam record to 5-0 against ninth-seeded Gasquet.
In the opening set, Murray dominated at first to lead 5-2 after breaking his opponent’s serve in the second game but thereafter Gasquet won five straight games to claim the set 7-5.
In the second, Gasquet dropped serve in the sixth game to go behind 2-4 but broke Murray in the ninth game and held serve to make the score 5-5. Things went to a tie-break which Murray comfortably won 7-3 to make it a set apiece.
Then Murray dominated, taking sets three and four, just losing two games to set up a meeting with Wawrinka in the semi-final.
“It was very, very important to win the second set because it was a very physical match up to that point,” said Murray afterwards.
“(Stan) is obviously playing great tennis,” said Murray. “It is going to be extremely difficult (but) hopefully, I can play my best tennis and reach my first final here.”
