Radwanska marches on at Roland Garros

Second seed Agnieszka Radwanska reached the third round at Roland Garros when she defeated Caroline Garcia in straight sets on Wednesday.

The Pole needed 85 minutes to down Garcia 6-2, 6-4 taking advantage of the French women’s weak serve for a comfortable victory.

Three breaks of serve in the first set put Radwanska in charge 6-2 in 45 minutes.

Garcia played a lot better in the second set and managed to break the second seeds serve twice but dropped hers three times to hand Radwanska the set and match 6-4.

Radwanska will next be up against Czech 30th seed Barbora Strycova who defeated Polona Hercog of Slovenia 6-4, 6-4.

In some other women’s second-round matches, American 19th seed Sloane Stephens beat Veronica Cepede Royg of Paraguay 7-6(0), 6-1 while Romania’s 25th seed Irina Begu won a marathon match when defeating CoCo Vandeweghe of America 6-7(4), 7-6(4), 10-8 in a match lasting three hours and 41 minutes.

Annika Beck of Germany won a three-setter against Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 while Australian 21st Samantha Stosur got past Zhang Shuai of China 6-3, 6-4.
