French tennis player Julien Benneteau has hinted that Amelie Mauresmo may have quit working with Andy Murray due to his insults on court directed at the coaching staff.
Benneteau made the statement in his latest interview with French magazine L’Equipe saying that Mauresmo did not like being insulted in front of the cameras courtside.
“Already in Miami, Amelie was not in Andy’s player’s box during the matches. Sometimes, he can be quite nervous on court and shout abuse at his team.
“Maybe Amelie no longer wanted that.” Benneteau said. “She maybe no longer wanted to be insulted in front of the cameras.
“In any case, it proves once again the extent that she is totally independent.”
This is contrary to the statement released following Murray’s loss to world number one Novak Djokovic in Madrid over the weekend.
The pair revealed that the split was mutual, with Mauresmo citing the constant travel as one of the reasons.
“Dedicating enough time along with the travel has been a challenge,” said the 36-year-old, before adding, “Working with Andy over the last two years has been a fantastic experience for me.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of the great team of people he has around him. I wish him and the team well and I hope he goes on to win many more titles.”
