Siegemund continues Stuttgart surge

Laura Siegemund’s unbelievable week at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix continued as she stunned top seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the semi-finals.

Having already notched up straight sets victories over Simona Halep in the second round and Roberta Vinci in the quarter-finals, the German qualifier continued her giant-killing form with another impressive 6-4, 6-2 victory – this time over last year’s WTA Finals champion.

Radwanska looked in comfortable enough after saving two early break points in the first set, converting a break point of her own a couple of games later.

But Siegemund broke back in the next game and then snatched another break shortly after to turn a 1-3 deficit into a 4-3 lead.

She was rock solid on serve from there and would go on to clinch the first set with a fantastic drop shot.

Thriving in front of her home fans, Siegemund broke in the very first game of the second set and then again a couple of games later to race to a 4-1 lead. Like her fellow seeds, Radwanska must have been wondering what had hit her.

The Pole managed to regain one of her lost breaks to get it back to 2-4, but Siegemund immediately regained her three-game cushion before holding her service game to love and closing out another massive victory.

Standing between her and the title is fellow German Angelique Kerber.

The defending champion and second seed survived a second-set fightback from Petra Kvitova to record a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 victory in the day’s first semi-final.
