Beck triumphs in Quebec

Fifth seed Annika Beck was crowned the Coupe Banque Nationale champion after beating Jelena Ostapenko 6-2, 6-2 on Sunday.

For Beck, the victory allowed her to gain retribution of some description as she had been beaten twice by Ostapenko this year, most recently in the first round of the US Open.

Beck and Ostapenko each claimed a break early in the opener before the 21-year-old took control and broke Ostapenko twice more to clinch the first set 6-2.

The German was the dominant force in the second set and broke Ostapenko twice and won 93 percent of points on her first serve to take the second set 6-2 and finish off the match in 53 minutes.

The title, which is Back's second on the WTA Tour, will see her break into the top 50 in the WTA rankings, while Ostapenko will be ranked in the top 100 for the first time in her career.
