Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska reached the second round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo on Monday.
The seventh seed won comfortably and in straight sets; beating American Coco Vandeweghe 6-3, 6-3 in just over an hour. Vandeweghe will rue the defeat, as she served seven double faults in the match.
In other matches, Czech Barbora Strycova got past Japan's Naomi Osaka 7-5, 6-2 and will next face Spanish third seed Garbine Muguruza, who had a first-round bye.
Italy's Camila Giorgi won a hard fought three-setter against Caroline Garcia, eventually winning 4-6, 7-6 (7/3), 6-3. Up next for Giorgi is second seed Ana Ivanovic, who also sat out Monday's first round.
