Ivanovic, Kerber through in Wuhan

Ana Ivanovic cruised into the third round of the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open after beating Madison Brengle in straight sets on Tuesday.

The Serbian ninth seed was too strong for Brengle, winning 6-0, 6-3 in 72 minutes.

In other matches, German sixth seed Angelique Kerber played well to get past Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic in three sets; winning 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 after breaking her opponent thrice in the final set.

France's Kristina Mladenovic worked hard to beat American 14th seed Madison Keys 7-5, 1-6, 6-2, while 12th seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine cruised past America's Varvara Lepchenko 6-4, 6-2.

Unseeded Italian Camila Giorgi got past Swiss 11th seed Belinda Bencic, who pulled out injured after losing the first set 6-2. 

Spanish seventh seed Carla Suarez Navarro needed two hours and 26 minutes to beat Romania's Monica Niculescu 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

America's Coco Vandeweghe took over three hours to get past France's Caroline Garcia 6-3, 6-7(4), 7-6(6).
