Jovanovski, Krunic win in Tashkent

Unseeded Bojana Jovanovski beat seventh seed Jelena Ostapenko in the first round of the Tashkent Open on Tuesday.

The Serb needed three sets against Latvia's Ostapenko, eventually winning 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 in a match that lasted 109 minutes.

In other matches, Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia was too good for Estonia's Anett Kontaveit, winning 6-2, 6-4 and Nigina Abduraimova of Uzbekistan beat Croatia's Petra Martic 6-4, 6-0.

Ukraine's Kateryna Kozlova was a comfortable winner against Klara Koukalova of the Czech Republic coming through 6-4, 6-0 and Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova caused a slight upset when beating eighth-seeded Andreea Mitu of Romania 7-5, 6-3.

Russia's Evgeniya Rodina had little trouble beating Urszula Radwanska of Poland 6-2, 6-4 and fifth-seeded Katerina Siniakova of Czech Republic beat Polish qualifier Paula Kania 6-2, 7-6(5).

Top seed Annika Beck of Germany had little trouble beating Russia's Elizaveta Kulichkova 6-3, 6-1 and Croatia's Donna Vekic beat Kiki Bertens of Netherlands in three sets, winning 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.

Sweden's fourth seed Johanna Larsson easily got past Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland) 6-3, 6-3 and Jana Cepelova of Slovakia easily beat Sabina Sharipova of Uzbekistan 6-2, 6-1.

In an upset, Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus beat third seed Polona Hercog from Slovenia 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
