Karlovic breaks record despite loss

Ivo Karlovic became the undisputed ace-king of tennis after serving 26 aces in his loss to Pablo Cuevas in the second round of the China Open on Thursday.

Uruguay's Cuevas beat the big-serving Croat 7-6(5), 7-6(6) in one hour and 33 minutes.

Despite the loss Karlovic is now the undisputed ace-king; having got past countryman Goran Ivanisevic's record on Thursday.

By serving 26 aces, the 6ft 11in Croatian is now 10 clear of Ivanisevic's career record of 10,237 aces.  

Cuevas won the opening set 7-5 in the tiebreaker and had two break points when 4-3 up in the second but Karlovic managed to hold serve to eventually force another tiebreaker.

The Uruguayan went on to win the breaker 8-6 to reach the quarter-finals. 

In another match, Italy's Fabio Fognini caused an upset when he beat Belgian seventh seed David Goffin 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.
