Juan Martin Del Potro and Albert Romas-Vinolas advanced to the second round of the BNP Paribas Masters at Indian Wells on Friday.
The Argentine, who endured a torrid couple of seasons due to injury, eased past Tim Smyczek 6-4, 6-0 in 68 minutes on the hard courts of Florida.
Del Potro was dominant on serve, facing just one break point on his way to an easy win. The 2009 US Open winner faces sixth seed Tomas Berdych in the second round.
Meanwhile, Romas-Vinolas came back from a set down to defeat Hyeon Chung 2-6, 6-0, 6-3.
Marcel Granollers eased past Damir Dzumhur 6-1, 6-0 to book a place in the second round where he faces world number two Andy Murray.
Illya Marchekno booked a clash with third seed Stan Wawrinka after his 7-5, 7-6(6) win over Dmitry Tursunov.
