Fourth seed Dominic Thiem will go up against Bernard Tomic in the final of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco after cruising past Sam Querrey 6-2, 6-2.
This will be Thiem’s second final this year as he reached the final of the Argentina Open earlier this month and went on to win the tournament.
Thiem broke Querrey right off the bat en route to taking a 2-0 lead before Querrey managed to reduce the deficit to 3-2. However, it was all Thiem from that point on as the 22-year-old broke Querrey once again in the seventh game before going on to clinch the first set.
It was much the same story in the second set as Thiem broke Querrey twice before proceeding to take a 5-1 lead. Thiem was just too much for Querrey to handle as the Austrian converted match point on his first attempt and booked his spot in the final.
Thiem now has to get past Tomic, who advanced to the final after coming from behind to beat Alexandr Dolgopolov 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, to win his second title of the year.
