Fourth seed Dominic Thiem booked his spot in the semi-finals of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco after beating seventh seed Grigor Dimitrov 7-5, 6-2.
Thiem, who won the Argentina Open and reached the semi-finals of the Rio Open prior to the tournament, broke Dimitrov right off the bat en route to taking a 2-0 lead.
However, Dimitrov broke back in the fourth game to make it 2-2. After six holds, Thiem would edge ahead as he broke Dimitrov in the 11th game to take a 6-5 lead before going on to clinch the first set.
Dimitrov did not put up as much of a fight in the second set as he was broken twice before Thiem converted match point on his first attempt to advance to the last four.
Thiem will face Sam Querrey in the semi-finals after the latter came from behind to defeat Taylor Fritz 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Meanwhile, fifth seed Bernard Tomic will take on Alexandr Dolgopolov in the other semi-final after he defeated Illya Marchenko 7-5, 7-5. Dolgopolov cruised past Robin Haase 6-3, 6-3 to progress to the semi-finals.
