Djokovic notches up 700th career victory

World number one Novak Djokovic reached an impressive milestone on Wednesday, beating Malek Jaziri in straight sets to earn his 700th ATP Tour-level win.

The Serb was his usual dominant self, cruising to a 6-1, 6-2 victory as he moved on to the quarter-final stage of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

After the match, which lasted just 65 minutes, Djokovic was presented on court with a commemorative cake to celebrate the 700 wins.

“The first set and a half I enjoyed it, and then I started missing a lot of forehands, easy forehands from midcourt,” said Djokovic. “It frustrated me, honestly, a little bit.

“But I managed to win the match. I will take the positives out of tonight’s match and hopefully I will be able to raise my game even more.”

Awaiting Djokovic in the last eight is Feliciano Lopez, who beat Lukas Rosol 6-3, 7-6 (9-7).

“I’m going to try to prepare for this match well and raise the game a little bit more than tonight,” the top seed added.

Second seed Stan Wawrinka was also in action on Wednesday, dispatching Franko Skugor 7-5, 6-1, while last week’s winner in Marseille, Nick Kyrgios, marched on as well with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Mikhail Kukushkin.

Third seed Tomas Berdych advanced courtesy of a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Thomas Fabbiano.

There were also wins for Phillip Kohlschreiber, Marcos Baghdatis and Roberto Bautista-Agut.
