Second-seeded Kei Nishikori had few problems when defeating Thiemo de Bakker in the first round of the Acapulco International on Monday.
The Japanese superstar needed just 60 minutes to defeat the Dutch qualifier De Bakker 6-0, 6-3.
Nishikori broke his opponent’s serve in the first, third and fifth games of the opening set to clinch it 6-0 in 24 minutes.
In the second set, De Bakker dropped his serve in the third game but broke back a game later to tie the scores at 2-2 but Nishikori broke again in the seventh and ninth games to win the set and match 6-3.
In other men’s first round matches, Victor Estrella of the Dominican Republic beat Mexico’s Lucas Gomez 6-4, 6-2 and Robin Haase of the Netherlands cruised past Luis Patino of Mexico 6-1, 6-2.
Ukraine’s Illya Marchenko got past Tommy Paul 6-2, 7-6(4) while Frenchman Adrian Mannarino beat Tigre Hank of Mexico 6-1, 6-2.
American Donald Young cruised past Gilles Muller of Luxembourg 6-3, 6-3.
