Italy’s Sara Errani will face Barbora Strycova in the final of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Saturday.
Errani was the first to advance, producing a gritty and gutsy performance on the way to a 6-4 6-4 victory over 21st-ranked Elina Svitolina of Ukraine.
The result doesn’t tell the whole story, with Errani forced to come from behind in both sets, coming out on top in a match that featured several lengthy rallies and games.
“It was really tough,” said the Italian. “Every point, every game was really long. It’s unbelievable for me to be playing in another final.”
Strycova, meanwhile, was up against young Frenchwoman Carolina Garcia, closing out a 6-2 3-6 6-3 victory.
She has now beaten Garcia in five of their six encounters.
After a lengthy two-hour-and-13-minute battle, Strycova clinched the match with two consecutive aces, which came as a pretty big surprise to her.
“I mean, I’m so small, so for me it’s good to put in an ace. And two in a row serving for match, it feels great.”
