Misaki Doi defeated Mona Barthel in the women’s singles final to claim the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open on Sunday.
The Japanese star survived a second set comeback from Barthel to eventually win 6-4, 6-7(7), 6-0 in Luxembourg.
A solitary break of serve in the very first game of the match would be enough for the world number 92 to win the opening set.
The second set was a tense affair as both players traded service games until the tiebreaker. The German would control the tiebreak well and force the match into a deciding set.
But Doi turned on the class on the final set, needing just 24 minutes to seal the final set and the championship.
