Radwanska beats Halep in Singapore

Agnieszka Radwanska kept her hopes alive of reaching the WTA Championships semi-final by beating Simona Halep in Singapore on Thursday.

Radwanska won their Red Group match in straight sets, 7-6(5), 6-1 in one hour and 46 minutes.

Prior to the match, top seed Halep needed to win one set to stay in the competition but now she goes home.

Radwanska's win means that Maria Sharapova will now play in the semi-finals but for the Pole to join her, Sharapova will have to beat Flavia Pennetta in straight sets in the second match of the day. Any other result will see Pennetta go through.

In the first set, Radwanska got off to a poor start dropping serve in her opening service game but after saving two break points in the fifth game she went on to break her opponent's serve to level matters at 3-3.

The set then went to a tie-breaker and Halep jumped to a 5-1 lead but from there Radwanska fought back and eventually won the breaker 7-5 and along with that the first set.

The second set was all Radwanska, she broke her opponents serve twice to go to a 4-1 lead and never looked back winning the set 6-1 in 30 minutes.
