Swiss superstar Roger Federer was at his brilliant best when beating David Goffin of Belgium to advance to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open on Sunday night.
The third seed needed 90 minutes to crush the 15th seeded Goffin 6-2, 6-1, 6-4.
Federer started the match looking very sharp and in the fourth game broke serve and then again in the eighth game to clinch the opening set in just 22 minutes.
During the second set, the Swiss was just as relentless breaking his opponent’s serve in the fourth and sixth games to win the set 6-1.
Goffin did make Federer work harder for the win in the third, despite dropping his serve in the first and fifth games, he did break the third seeds serve in the sixth game but it was not enough to discourage the Swiss ending his masterclass, winning the match and third set 6-4.
With the win, Federer extended a perfect record to 4-0 against Goffin.
Federer next faces Czech sixth seed Tomas Berdych in the quarter-finals.
