Roger Federer helped the UAE Royals open their campaign at the Singapore leg of the 2015 International Premier Tennis League with a 27-23 victory over the Singapore Slammers on Friday.
The Royals won all but one of the matches on the night, and never trailed in the contest.
Proceedings kicked off with the legends singles match between the Slammers' Carlos Moya and Goran Ivanisevic, where the Croat obtained the only break of the match in the 10th game to claim a 6-4 victory.
Kristina Mladenovic then continued her good form in the competition by handing the Royals a second victory in the women's singles, albeit by the narrowest of margins, 6-5 (7-6) over Karolina Pliskova at the end of a nervy, testing shoot-out.
That put the Royals in the driving seat, although the Slammers got back on level terms in the next match as the team of Pliskova and Dustin Brown defeated Mladenovic and Roger Federer 6-3 in the mixed doubles.
Federer wasn't done yet, however, and he would go on to win the men's doubles and singles contests to ensure a Royals victory.
Teaming up with Daniel Nestor, the Swiss ace defeated Nick Kyrgios and Marcelo Melo 6-4 before returning to the court to take on top-ranked countryman Stan Wawrinka in the final match of the evening.
Federer and Wawrinka exchanged breaks early on, but Federer conjured another opening late in the set to complete a 6-4 victory and seal the overall win.
