Richard Gasquet has pulled out of the season-opening Qatar Open in Doha due to a back injury.
Gasquet aggravated his chronic back problem while representing the Philippine Mavericks in the International Premier Tennis League, in which his side finished fourth on the standings.
To make matters worse, Gasquet may even be forced to miss the Australian Open in January, according to local media reports.
Gasquet triumphed at the Qatar Open in 2013, where he beat Nikolay Davydenko 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the final.
The Qatar Open will get underway on January 4, with Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal set to be the top two seeds in the tournament.
