Slammers ease past Mavericks with clean sweep

The Singapore Slammers enjoyed a comfortable 30-22 win over the Philippine Mavericks in the ongoing International Premier Tennis League.

Veteran Carlos Moya got the Slammers off to a winning start in the men's legends match, defeating Australia's Mark Philippoussis 6-4.

The charismatic Dustin Brown then teamed up Karolina Pliskova to dismantle the Mavericks' Treat Huey and Jarmilia Gajdosova 6-5 (7-2) in the mixed doubles.

Belinda Bencic then made it three from three for the Slammers when she battled past Croatian Ajla Tomljanovic 6-3 in the women's singles, giving them an almost unassailable lead.

Australian bad boy Nick Kyrgios combined with Marcelo Melo to keep the winning streak going for the Singapore-based team, edging Treat Huey and Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-5 (7-5).

Kyrgios then stayed on court to complete the clean sweep for the Slammers, defeating Roger Vasselin 6-5 (7-2).

Defending champions Indian Aces will face the Japan Warriors later on Friday.
