Matfield mum on Meyer’s future

While veteran Springbok Victor Matfield supports coach Heyneke Meyer, he knows very little about his future beyond the World Cup.

South Africa narrowly lost to old rivals New Zealand in a titanic World Cup semi-final at Twickenham on Saturday.

While Meyer still has at least one game to be in charge of the two-time world champions at the dreaded 3rd/4th place play-off against Argentina, his post-World Cup career remains a mystery.

"It's very difficult for me to say anything on the coach," said the 39-year-old, who is one of Meyer's most loyal supporters.

"You guys know how I feel about Heyneke and my belief in him.

"I think we've got great players here, I think if you look at the squad is a very young squad, with four or five old players but it's very young squad.

"You look at 10, 12, 13 and the locks that's here, so much talent.

"So I think a guy like Heyneke will love to keep working with these boys, that he picked us youngsters and hopefully they can win the next world cup for us."
