USA pip Jamaica to win gold in women’s 4x100m

The United States edged out Jamaica to retain their 4x100m women’s relay title at the Olympics on Friday.

The USA team, which consisted of Tianna Bartoletta, Felix, English Gardner and Tori Bowie, clocked a time of 41.01s, which was short of the 40.20s they put up at the 2012 Olympics in London.

Jamaica claimed silver for the second consecutive time at the Olympics after finishing with a time of 41.36s, while Great Britain won bronze, which was the first time they had won a medal in the 4x100m women’s relay 1984, as they set a British record with a time of 41.77s.

The United States only qualified for the final at the second attempt as they initially dropped the baton during the second exchange of the first round.
