Colombia’s Mariana Pajon won gold in the women’s individual BMX final in Rio on Friday, while Thailand’s Amanda Carr missed out on qualifying for the final.
A throng of Colombian fans dressed in yellow cheered the 24-year-old on as she successfully defended the title she first won in London four years ago to become only the second gold medallist in her country’s history.
Pajon got out in front right from the start and never lost her lead as she completed the race in 34.09.
American Alise Post was second in 34.43 and Stefany Hernandez of Venezuela third in 34.75.
Thailand’s Carr narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final after finishing sixth in heat 1 of the semis, with only the top four moving on.
