Hang forced out of Olympic wrestling event

Vietnam’s Vu Thi Hang has been forced to pull out of the women’s 48kg wrestling event in Rio due to a recurring injury.

The Vietnamese delegation’s health team confirmed on Wednesday that Hang’s spinal injury had resurfaced and she would not be allowed to compete.

The news will come as a big disappointment for the wrestler, who had done so well to make it to Rio after defeating So Sim Hyang of North Korea 3-2 in the semi-finals of the qualification event in Kazakhstan.

Hang’s teammate Nguyen Thi Lua will compete in the qualifying round of the women’s 54kg division on Thursday.
