Japan’s Takahashi, Matsutomo through to final

The Japanese duo of Ayaka Takahashi and Misaki Matsutomo booked their spot in the women’s doubles final after beating South Korea’s Eun Kyung Jung and Chan Seung Shin 21-16, 21-15.

The top seeds have been in impressive form this year as they have won five titles and will be looking to add a gold medal to their collection.

Takahashi and Matsutomo will face the Danish pair of Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Juhl Rytter after they stunned second seeds Tang Yuanting and Yu Yang of China 21-16, 14-21, 21-19.

A new champion was always going to be crowned in the women’s doubles event as defending champions Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei were withdrawn from the Olympics by China’s National Olympic Committee in July.
