Malaysia one step closer to first ever gold

V Shem Goh and Wee Kiong Tan have secured a silver medal at the very least after advancing to the finals of the men’s doubles badminton at the Rio Olympic Games.

The pair survived a second game comeback from Chinese duo Biao Chai and Wei Hong to win 21-18, 12-21, 21-17 on the courts of the Riocentro on Tuesday.

The victory books Malaysia a place in the final – which takes place on Friday – where they will face another Chinese pair, Haifeng Fu and Nan Zhang who are ranked fourth in the draw.

Malaysia is still hunting for its first ever gold medal in Olympic history.
