Singapore cruise past Egypt

It was smooth sailing for Singapore in their first round clash with Egypt in the women’s team table tennis event at the Olympics on Friday as they triumphed 3-0.

Mengyu Yu got the ball rolling for Singapore as she defeated Dina Meshref 3-0 after winning their three games 11-3, 11-6, 11-6.

Tianwei Feng doubled Singapore’s lead as she downed Nadeen El-Dawlatly 11-4, 9-11, 11-5, 11-4 to claim a 3-1 win.

Yihan Zhou and Yu wrapped up Singapore’s 3-0 victory when they beat Yousra Helmy and El-Dawlatly 11-7, 11-6, 11-4.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong took down Chinese Taipei 3-1, while Japan hammered Poland 3-0 and South Korea skirted past Romania 3-2. China and North Korea eased their way to a 3-0 win over Brazil and Australia respectively.
