Singapore couple sail into sixth

Singapore sailors Justin Liu and Denise Lim are in sixth place after two races of the 20-strong multi-hull Nacra 17 (multihull) class event at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

After finishing the first race in second place, the couple had to settle for 14th in the next race, and their score of 16 points was initially only enough for eighth place.

However, the disqualification of the Spanish and Greek teams, meant the Singaporean duo were promoted to sixth.

Competing in their first Olympics, Liu and Lim are scheduled to feature in the third race on Friday.

The competition consists of 12 races, and at this early stage of the event, the Swiss pair of Nathalie Brugger and Matias Buhler are in the lead with seven points.

In the Laser Standard event, Colin Cheng is in 18th place after six races with a total of 77 points, with Lasar Radial sailor Elizabeth Yin in 25th, also after six races.

The 470 women’s pair of Jovina Choo and Amanda Ng are in 19th after two races.
