Rio is overflowing with the world’s best athletes as the Olympic Games get underway.
One man who many will be looking forward to seeing in action is Olympic legend Michael Phelps, after all, the American is the most decorated Olympian of all time, having bagged 22 medals in three Olympic Games.
When it comes to big names, you don’t get much bigger than Phelps and the swimmer has masses of adoring fans all over the world. But that doesn’t mean that the 31-year-old isn’t a fan of other top athletes.
Phelps crossed paths with none other than tennis ace Novak Djokovic on Wednesday, and he was rather an awe of meeting the world number one…

Phelps said of the meeting: “I literally was like, ‘yeah, that’s Djokovic!’ You know, you smile, you nod. I said (to myself), ‘I’m going to say hi, I don’t care.’ We ended up talking, talking about the event schedule. When he’s competing, when I’m competing … Super nice, super down to earth. Easy to talk to. It was something that was cool to see. I’ve watched a lot of his matches on TV and he’s obviously had a lot of epic ones.”
Personally, we’re not sure we would have moved past the smiling bit!
