Vietnam only made their debut at the Olympics in 1952 and have won two silver medals since then at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Following the partition of Vietnam in 1954, only the Republic of Vietnam competed in the Olympic Games between 1956 and 1972.
Nguyen Tien Minh in Badminton (Men’s singles) and Nguyen Thi Anh Vien in swimming are the country’s chief participants. Swimming is their strength, Nguyen is considered to be a prodigy in Vietnam.
The 19-year-old starred in the 2015 South-east Asian Games in Singapore, winning a total of 10 medals Badminton, too, as this could be Nguyen’s has secured two titles this year and also won a bronze medal at the 2013 BWF World Championships.
