The Voltcom Cresent Suzuki rider believes he has an early advantage at the Buriram circuit in Thailand as it matches his physical riding style.
This weekend will be the first time World Superbike takes the WSBK Championship has to the Chang International Circuit in Thailand which makes the circuit a relatively unknown for all the teams and riders.
"Today has been good," Lowes said. "It's always nice to come to a new track, to learn the layout and try to understand the challenges of each corner.
"I really like the mid-section – you have to be quite physical on the bike which suites my style quite a bit," he added.
Lowes had to battle for the best time of the day, with just five minutes remaining he set the fastest lap of the day to claim WSBK's fastest lap time.
"It's been a good day, we've worked hard and I've done a lot of laps, completing two ten-lap runs in the last session," Lowes added. "But it's only Friday and the times are going to get a lot quicker so we'll see what happens."
