Renault help a 79-year-old become the oldest person to drive an F1 car

Renault F1 coached Rosemary Smith for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and she did not disappoint.

Smith was a successful rally driver in her time, racing traditional cars on regular roads, her blonde hair and piercing blue eyes turning heads when she whipped off her helmet wherever she went.

“She drives like nobody’s business,” quipped a commentator from yesteryear.

Fast forward to 2017 and with the help of Renault’s Jolyon Palmer, Smith prepared for a lap in the 800hp beast. And it went off just swimmingly…

“You know, the older you get and you’re sort of feeling well time is sort of running out, so I’ve got to make the most of every moment,” Smith says in the video.

I think we can all take a leaf out of Smith’s book…
