With his STR10 adapting well to the Barcelona circuit, Carlos Sainz is looking forward to a strong showing at his home grand prix.
The Toro Rosso rookie took the Spanish track on Friday morning in the weekend's opening practice and finished an impressive P5.
And although he dropped to ninth in the afternoon's session as he struggled to find the right set-up, Sainz is looking forward to the remainder of the weekend.
His 1:28.674 on Friday afternoon was 1.822s off the pace.
"It was a positive day for us," said the Spaniard.
"We immediately saw that the car was adapting well to this tricky track and this made me feel confident straight away.
"This afternoon's FP2 was a bit more difficult for me because we struggled a bit and still need to fine-tune a few things, but we know what we have to do to be ready for tomorrow.
"It's amazing to drive out and see so many Spanish fans cheering me on here in Barcelona. It's great to be racing at home and I look forward to the rest of the weekend."
Sainz ended Friday's running as the best placed Spanish as Fernando Alonso was P11 with Roberto Merhi 20th.
