Russian Grand Prix: Qualifying as it happened

Follow all the action from Qualifying at the Russian Grand Prix live right here.

20:49 It’s time to put the cards on the table, here’s Q3! The Mercedes are straight out.

20:46 Six different teams will take part in Q3, including both Mercedes, both Ferraris, both Red Bulls, and both Force India.

20:43 And that’s it for Q2! A late effort by Raikkonen sends him up to P2, but unfortunately there were no Q3 miracles from Alonso today. Good effort by the two Force India’s, who are both through.

20:35 We’re into the final few minutes of Q2 now. Ferrari are some way off the Silver cars, but how much do they have in reserve?

20:31 Raikkonen is the first of the leaders to post a time. It’s a 1.34.0, which is matched by Vettel, but Bottas soon betters that to 1.33.2, while Hamilton manages a 1.33.7.

20:26 Q2 is go! Ultrasoft tyres all round.

20:23 Alonso crossed the line and improved to P14 just a moment before Palmer’s accident. The Spaniard is through!

20:20 Disaster! Jolyon Palmer has bounced over a kerb and gone into the wall! His day is done! The resulting yellow flags stop anyone from improving, which brings Q1 to a close.

20:16 Both McLaren’s currently in danger of missing out on Q2. Alonso needs to find 0.3 seconds…

20:13 The order for you:

20:10 Bottas leads the way on a 1.34.1, 0.9 and 1.1 seconds clear of Vettel and Raikkonen, respectively. However, the Ferraris have used supersofts rather than the ultrasofts of the Mercedes…

20:05 Carlos Sainz is the first to post a time, a 1.36.5.

20:00 Green light, Q1 is a go! Straight out come a whole host of cars, all on ultrasofts…

19:55 The last time Ferrari dominated a qualifying session was almost a decade ago. Can the Scuderia roll back the years today?

19:50 10 minutes until Q1 gets underway, and it appears that Palmer will be able to take part! Top job by the Renault mechanics there!

19:35 FP3 went largely according to the script, with no major dramas, apart from Jolyon Palmer suffering from an engine concern. Whether the Renault man’s R.S.17 will be ready for the upcoming session is not yet clear.

19:30 Welcome back to FOX Sports Asia’s coverage of Qualifying for the Russian Grand Prix. Ferrari completed a clean sweep of practice by topping FP3 earlier, but will they set the pace now that it counts?
