Force India: Perez is so undervalued

Scoring points for the 13th race in succession, Bob Fernley reckons Force India’s Sergio Perez is “so undervalued” as a driver.

Perez raced from 18th on the grid to seventh at the chequered flag at the last race in Bahrain.

His drive was made ever-more impressive by the fact that many drivers have spent have been complaining about how difficult it is to overtake in Formula 1's new generation of cars.

Perez's P7 at the Sakhir circuit means he has now scored in the last 13 races with his top-ten streak starting at last year's German GP.

Speaking of Perez's Sunday in Bahrain, Fernley told RACER: "It was a super drive.

"We keep saying that Checo is so undervalued I think in terms of public opinion or whatever.

"He's an amazing driver – you just give him the slightest sniff of an overtake or a points position and he is there every time."

The deputy team boss likened Perez's ability to raise his level to that of double World Champion Fernando Alonso.

"He's got amazing tenacity, which is what Fernando also has, but he has that calmness and that smoothness that allows him to deliver the tire results and everything that we need as well.

“He's an exceptionally good driver and we're obviously very proud to have him with us."
