Crutchlow fastest in wet third practice session in Argentina

Cal Crutchlow topped third practice for the Argentinian Grand Prix as the rain stamped it’s influence on the weekend with a number of big names stuck in Q1.

Heavy rain set in with 20 minutes left in the session which meant it was the top 10 riders from Friday who secured the automatic Q2 spots, with Maverick Vinales’ previous best time of 1m39.477s going unbeaten.

Crutchlow was the only rider in the top 10 to improve his previous best time on Saturday morning, posting a 1m39.722s on his LCR Honda to top the session by 0.115s ahead of Vinales.

That feat means that he now moves into second on the combined practice sheet.

Marc Marquez and Aspar Ducati pair Karel Abraham and Alvaro Bautista occupy third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Danilo Petrucci (Pramac Ducati), Loris Baz (Avintia Ducati), Jonas Folger (Tech 3 Yamaha), Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia) and Andrea Iannone (Suzuki) claimed the other five Q2 byes as a result of their performances on Friday.

It was heartbreak for Dani Pedrosa as he ended up third-fastest in the session with a 1m40.292s. That left him in 11th on the combined practice sheets, a mere 0.042s slower than 10th.

Among other notables that are stranded in Q1 as a result of the weather are Andrea Dovizioso, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo.
