Hulkenberg still focused on F1

Ahead of his Le Mans debut, Nico Hulkenberg has insisted that Formula 1 remains his primary focus.

The Force India driver recently contested his first World Endurance Championship race at Spa, finishing sixth with Porsche team-mates Nick Tandy and Earl Bamber.

The race was part of his preparations for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with his interest in WEC raising questions about where his future may lie.

"One thing is clear: my thoughts are still based around F1," Hulkenberg told the official F1 website. "I'd like to have a few more years here.

"Where, how and what – that's much too early to say. But if Vijay [Mallya] says so, it is a nice line for us drivers."

The German added that he still dreams of racing for a top team and fighting for the F1 Drivers' title.

"I came to F1 with the clear target to win races and eventually become World Champion – every driver's ambition is this in the first place. But we also know that you need the right tool – and that is the right car!

"To come back to your question, yes it is still my target. So far it hasn't happened, but anyone who knows me knows that I am a fighter and I will keep on fighting and looking for my opportunity.

"Timing is crucial. And you need an element of luck. Timing is important for the pieces to fall into the right places."
