Giugliano trumps Rea in Portimao test

Even though he was still feeling the effects of the flu, Giugliano emerged victorious with a lap time of 1’42.346. However, Giugliano's team-mate Chaz Davies did not have the same success as he finished sixth after testing out a developed exhaust system.

With Rea registering his fourth double victory of the season on Sunday, he may have felt relaxed at the test, but the same could not be said about his Kawasaki team-mate, Tom Sykes.

Sykes was infuriated after a sensor problem led to him coming second in race one, while a deflated rear tyre, which was caused by a damaged wheel rim, saw him finish eighth in race two. The Briton spent much of Monday testing his engine, electronics and suspension geometry.

Aprilia Racing Team rider Leon Haslam took it easy on Monday as he aggravated his rib injury when he crashed during race one on Sunday, but still managed to post the fourth fastest time. Haslam focused on chassis work, while his team-mate Jordi Torres, who came eighth on Sunday, tested out a new rear shock.

Voltcom Crescent Suzuki’s Alex Lowes rounded off the top five after enjoying a successful time of it with the new Magneti Marelli electronics package.
